For being a smart guy, Albert Einstein had a lot of common sense. This one is among my favorites:
Problems cannot be solved by the level of awareness that created them.
I think this is one of the main reasons counseling was so important for me. I was totally unaware of the 'big' problem. I saw the symptoms everyday and didn't understand that symptoms can mask a much larger underlying problem.

It was the same with my alcohol use. I realized it was not so much WHAT I drank but WHY I drank that was the problem. The journey to sobriety led me to the underlying reasons for my poor self-image and the negative influence I ALLOWED my Nparents to have on my life.
Einstein was right! Self awareness is the key.
His definition of insanity is also insightful. "Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results."
Spot on mulderfan. The other quote is a favorite of mine too.
