Music soothes the soul

Sometimes.

I believe in music.  I used to sing songs to my children when they were little and going to sleep.  I haven't listened to music as much since I found out I needed hearing aides.  There is something about hearing everything filtered through the microphone that I miss hearing the nuances of sound.  Then I remind myself that until I had hearing aides I hadn't heard the sweetness of the cello solo with a symphony.  Music soothes or it can blast my ears with cacophony.  I was raised listening to the classics.  The Beatles slipped right past me.  I didn't hear Rock-n-Roll until my brothers were in high school.  I learned that music can affect my mood and my thinking.  When I am dancing in Zumba class, the beat and the sound remind me what steps I need to be doing.  I also use music to cheer me up.  I noticed that when I don't want to feel cheered I don't listen to music.  Music is something that I can control what I listen to...If my choices are dark and sad, it is my first clue that I am slipping into depression. When I am afraid, I still catch myself singing from Carousel:

You'll Never Walk Alone by Rodgers & Hammerstein

Nettie
When you walk through a storm
Keep your chin up high
And don't be afraid of the dark.
At he end of the storm
Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark.

Walk on through the wind,
Walk on through the rain,
Tho' your dreams be tossed and blown.Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone,
You'll never walk alone.

Another one that I like:

Sing your way Home

Sing your way home
at the close of the day...
Sing your way home,
drive the shadows away.
Smile every mile
For wherever you roam
It will brighten your road,
It will lighten your load,
If you sing your way home.

Sing.
Sing a song.
Sing out loud, sing out strong.
Sing of good things, not bad.
Sing of happy, not sad.
Sing.
Sing a song.
Make it simple to last your whole life long.
Don´t worry that it´s not good enough for anyone else to hear.
Just sing.
Sing a song.
La La La La La La
La La La La La La

La La La La La La
Sing. Sing a song.
Let the world.
Sing out loud.
Sing of love there, could be.
Sing for you and for me.
Sing a song.
Make it simple to last your whole life long.
Don´t worry that it´s not good enough for anyone else to hear.
Just sing, sing a song.

One of my all time favorites now is Cast in Bronze http://www.castinbronze.com/.  I spend a whole day once a year listening to every show he has at the Renaissance festival.  I love listening without my hearing aides.

Music can bring lightness and joy to my soul, I need to choose wisely.

Music connects us - it exists in every culture. It is amazing how connected it is to our emotions. I only realised this when I read that I should try and watch a movie without music. It was quite powerful. Great post! xxoo
