Some of my most rewarding students were those with Down Syndrome. They gave unconditional love and appreciated the simple things.
When I worked at a small country school and a beautiful Down Syndrome girl was about to start Kindergarten, I was approached by a "concerned" parent who though we should put the little five year old girl up on the stage in front of the whole school and explain "what" she was so the kids wouldn't be afraid of her.
My response was to suggest to the parent that SHE was so scary I thought SHE should be the one on the stage!
The "freak" show never took place but guess who's kids teased the sweet little girl!
